The photo of yourself, lovingly remodelled in Photoshop to roll the clock back 10 years? Your subtly blended adsense ads? The cute little animated graphic of a kitten sneezing? The 52 amazing free gifts opt-in box? Maybe the amazing neon Flash navigation links?

No, no, no, no and err . . . no. The most important part of your homepage is your headline.

Its job is to draw people in to the rest of your page. If someone finds your headline interesting, they are far more likely to then read your sub-head or opening paragraph.

And your opening paragraph should keep your visitors interested enough to read your second paragraph, and so on.

Your headline should GRAB your visitor’s attention.

Patterns lead to calmness and allow your visitor to focus their attention on what they’re looking for. Good patterns give your site harmony and firmness.

People find it easier to navigate around familiar things. The instant a visitor lands on your site they will compare it with every other site they visited before.

First thing they will see is your header image which has to sum up your entire site. Next, your headings should focus on benefits. Contrasting colors can be used to emphasize benefits.

What I’ve learned from affiliate marketing is that marketing is about talking. Talking yourself into it, talking about yourself and talking about the products you’re selling.

At first, I was afraid of these three “c” words: connection, communication, conversation. Every article or book I read about selling online kept scaring me away with these words.

I saw them so fancy and high demanding that I refused to apply them. So, I just kept it simple; I rewritten some articles, started sending e-mails, submitting to directories, posting blog comments and talking on forums. Then I started making sales… and it hit me!
