One excellent way to increase your conversion and sales with affiliate marketing is by investing the time into creating simple online videos and displaying them on your blog or sales pages. The reason why this is effective is because it allows your readers to connect with you personally.
Many people have a strong interest in affiliate marketing because it allows you to work a commission based job from home. In many ways working at home as an affiliate marketer isn’t much different that working as a sales associate for a car dealership or as a real estate agent for a real estate firm. These jobs all pay a commission; however, the key difference with affiliate marketing is that you are in control of your business. You have the freedom to create your own system and the freedom of being able to set your own hours.
Unfortunately, most people are not successful with affiliate marketing. My aim is to help change that. A lot of the time people fail simply because they believe that once they find a program that interests them, they can simply slap up a web page or write a blog post, include the affiliate links and wake up the next morning and become rich over night. As you know, it simply doesn’t work that way. Marketing on the Internet is very similar to marketing in the offline world. You have to gain exposure to the products and services you represent and you have to convince the people who visit your pages to buy.
Online videos are effective because they keep the visitor on the page. While the video is playing, many people will scroll up and down and read the text on the page. When they do this, they can hear you talking in the video. Certain words you speak will catch their ear and increase their interest in the product or service you are offering.
In the video you create, I would strongly recommend being honest about the product or service you are selling. Many people fail with affiliate marketing because the gun for promoting products and services that simply pay the highest commission while not having a personal interest. My advice is to find products and services that you personally believe in and possibly even own yourself.
Selling the products that you own or the services that you are actively paying for almost automatically doubles your conversions. People feel like if you have a personal interest in what you are selling, then it will be worth buying themselves. Your online video should reflect that.
Another piece of advice with affiliate marketing is having a personal ownership in the product or services being sold. And what I mean by this is even though the items you are selling aren’t truly yours, make them yours. Act as if the items you are selling are actually part of your inventory. Act as if the items you are selling are things that you created yourself.
The more personal interest you invest into the products and services are you attempting to sell, the more your conversions will increase. Your online video should reflect examples of why the products and services you are selling will help your customers and why they should purchase them. With that said, one of the most important things you can do in an online video is to sell yourself.
Selling yourself in the video is important. The reason why is simple. Even though you have invested time into creating an online video towards increasing conversions, you have to understand that you will never convert at 100%. If you sell yourself in the video, you will gain respect and trust from the people who don’t purchase the product and later they will return to watch another video and possibly purchase the next product or service you promote.
If you are looking for an excellent video recording software, I recommend checking out Camtasia Studios. The software is rather expensive; however, they do offer a full 30 day trial and they do not require the use of a credit card to download the trial. I don’t recommend purchasing Camtasia Studios until you are certain that creating online videos is right for you. In the mean time, do take full advantage of their risk free 30 day trial. It is amazing! Try making an online video promoting one of the products and services availale in the MoreNiche network, I think that you’ll find creating a video very entertaining and very effective. Of course, if you haven’t joined the MoreNiche network you should sign up for a free account.

Videos do in fact gain a person’s attention, but since this niche consists of a lot of text, it may get a bit boring when the video just continues to play. Throwing in something extra to entertain the reader would definitely help.

p.s. Congrats Garry on this post

Great post Garry, as you know…I LOVE using videos. It just let’s the people see you…and unless you’re a trained actor, you can’t fool the camera. People can pick up on if you’re being real or not…and usually feel more of a connection with you as opposed to just reading text.
Affiliate marketing can be very generous if you go at it the right way, the HONEST way. I agree with you on the fact that owning the product, and having a personal interest in it helps better promote it than just finding something with the largest payouts.
Great post man…good to see you writing over here.

Great article. I really like using Camtasia Studio (I’m still using the trial version). I feel that voice is a very powerful factor in determining whether the person buys the product or not.
In my opinion, the most important thing in promoting a product is that you have to give an honest review of the product. That way, even if the visitor does not buy the product, he might be interested in buying some other product from you.
Overall, videos are very good way to increase affiliate sale conversions.

I totally agree with you. With online videos, you attract more people to stay longer on your site and get to know more about your products or services. In this way, your affiliate sales may be increased in a significant manner. I’ll definitely look forward to your future articles or posts here in moreniche.

Interesting and informative post Garry, I’m also looking forward to reading more of these!
Remember affiliates the great thing about videos is how versatile they are as a resource they can easily be incorporated into your SEO campaign once you have used them for marketing, there are literally hundreds of video sites/galleries out there for you to submit them to and gain links, some are even themed if you are running a high quality link building campaign.

I liked the part when you said, “My advice is to find products and services that you personally believe in and possibly even own yourself.” I think if more people concentrated on this they would see an increase in their success rate. That’s my plan for 2009!

Hi Garry,
Good article – and agree with Amanda, good to see one recommending products you actualy believe in and not be the shifty salesperson selling whatever makes the most commission. As a general guide, I would never promote something I wouldn’t personally use myself and happy to recommend to friends and family
