seo roundup smallHappy New Year Everyone and welcome to the first SEO Roundup of 2009. We have a brand new SEO Roundup day (Tuesday from now on) but we will still be posting weekly to keep you up to date on all the latest SEO news.

This week the blogshpere remains fairly quiet but we have a great post from Tim Woodin about making money with social media, advice on design content optimisation form SEOMoz and a few good link building tips from Colin Lahay.

Maybe it’s just me but there seems to be a lack of genuinely informative posts this week online, loads of posts up there but few that scream out for attention, I have managed to find a few recent ones however that seem especially useful.

The first is on WolfHowl but is a guest post from Tim Woodin. The article talks about how to make money online with social media marketing. This is more SEM territory than SEO but the article is interesting and informative, especially to you as affiliates so I recommend you give it a read and consider adopting a similar strategy for one of your own campaigns.

I have to be honest and say I really don’t like the tone the article is written in but if you can get past this and look at the basic information that it is giving you then you will find it more than worth your time and many of the tips he gives could be applied to gaining links through social media just as they can be applied to gaining the converting traffic.

———-

The second post is from SEOMoz and related to the finer points of on page optimisation. As the post says this is not talking about title tags or keywords but about the more intricate ideas that could have positive effects on both SEO, bounce rate and conversion to ensure you gain more traffic and keep it.

It’s definitely an article for the more advanced SEO/designers among you as it requires a certain understanding of HTML/CSS but most of the points that it makes I agree with being positive factors in an SEO strategy.

Check what’s written here and add anything you’re not already doing to your SEO checklists.

Finally Colin Lahay (my number 1 tipped up and coming SEM blogger) did three great recommended link building posts citing eHow, Zillow and 2Collab as sites that can be incorporated into your SEO strategy.

All three of the sites have link building potential but if there is one thing I can criticize Colin for he does tend to do some community spamming sometimes, ensure if you sign up for these sites that you do so in a helpful and official capacity, they all have community elements so please contribute wherever possible and don’t simply create profile spam.
eHow in particular is great for community link building as it allows the inclusion of how to guides, videos and more.

———-

Hope you’ve enjoyed your SEO roundup this week, one final bit of business before I sign off is to give my own welcome to Garry Conn, Moreniche.com’s newest blogger. Garry run’s his own blog looking at all aspects of online marketing so give it a read sometime as well as his post on Moreniche.
