seo roundupHello Everyone and welcome back to SEO roundup.

This week we have an interesting collection of posts including some advice on link building for SEOMoz, the latest figures on search engine market share, an informative post on seasonal link building and a video interview with Matt Cutts that touches on a number of current SEO hot topics.

Firstly apologies for the lack of a post last week, we all know how important it is to keep on to of the SEO news but alas I was weighed down with a 100 little jobs to do and simply couldn’t find the time, in case you missed it the biggest news was the announcement of Google’s Search Wiki.

It could have a massive effect on all forms of SEM but at the moment Google say they are keeping it fairly low priority.

If you have not had a play yet be sure to sign in to your iGoogle account and do some searching!

The first news story I have as a suggestion this week is from SearchEngineWatch and discusses the latest Search Engine market shares.

This is a statistic all SEM’s should keep on top of, it helps you know which search engines you should be putting effort into ranking/bidding on as well as how much effort each one needs.

The simplified information from this times figures is that Yahoo and Microsoft both took a fairly large hit, 12% and 19% respectively.

Growth came for Google and AOL (which is powered by Google) to the tune of 8.1% and 14.5%.

Check the post out for a more in depth exploration of the statistics.

My second recommended read comes in the form of a link building post from SEOMoz.

It’s a fairly basic post but very informative none the less and would certainly be a fantastic read for any affiliate wanting to make their site rank better. It mainly deals with the effective use of link bait but also includes a presentation from poster “Tom C” that went out at PubCon this year.

This post from Peter at SEO Book goes into seasonal SEO and advises you on tactics for the Christmas season.

It discuss specific keywords to target and season keyword trends as well pointing out the most effective seasonal tactics.

It may be a little late to start a new SEO campaign this year but this post is definitely worth reading and remembering for next year so you can start targeting Christmas ‘09!

Finally we have a video of Matt Cutts speaking about the development of SEO at PubCon.

It touches on Geo-targeting from Googles perspective, Crawling and Indexing Flash, sub-domains and sub sub-directories, the broadening of SEO and the increase in malicious tactics from the black hat world.

Only ten minutes long so it’s really worth a watch.

That’s it for this week, hope you find this stuff helpful or at the very least, interesting. Got any news you think should be on here? Let me know by emailing blog[@]moreniche.com.
