Building a profitable email list
It’s unfortunate that many affiliates do not understand the importance of collecting and using an email list. It can add substantially to your bottom line profits when promoting any product in any affiliate program.
That is why you see products such as Aloeride offering free video tips to capture email addresses of visitors.
Before I go in to how to build a profitable email list let me first highlight why you should be collecting emails from your site – regardless of what type of site it is:
1) A good email list allows you to increase your bottom line profits. A common figure mentioned is that on average, each email you capture should be worth to you $1. Therefore, if you collect 500 new addresses a month you should be able to make around $500 a month in addition to your normal site income.
2) If you ever get to a stage where you are selling your entire site, a well-built email list will increase your sites value with buyers often willing to pay $0.5 – $2 per email (depending on the type and quality of list). Therefore if you have built a list of 2,000 subscribers this could add between $1,000 and $4,000 to your sale price.
3) Email lists are a great way for announcing your latest news and getting people to return to your site. This increases the amount of traffic you receive and increases the amount of sales you make.
4) You can offer advertising space or charge other sites to send an email to your list – giving you fast profits when you need them most.
These are just 4 big reasons why you should be building an email list now, there are many more reasons too. So, let me now give you some tips on how to build a profitable email list:
1) Make sure you offer something for free – few people will sign-up just to get a newsletter. Free eBooks are a great way to hook subscribers in, plus if you create the eBook yourself you get to stick your affiliate links in it for constant recurring income. You can easily create an informative eBook by compiling the articles from your site in to a structured guide.
2) Always ensure people see that your email capture. Choose the correct positioning on the page, use the correct text that will get people interested. Also make sure all of your articles have a subscribe box as people reading articles are usually interested in receiving more in their inbox.
3) Once you have subscribers treat them right. Your first job is to build up trust with them. Don’t start off straight away with a hard sell, set-up a chain for everyone who subscribes and give them quality information without selling. They will then start to trust you and be keen to read the next message you send them.
4) Always allow people a chance to unsubscribe, in the US it’s law (CAN-SPAM) but everywhere its common decency to allow people to unsubscribe easily. Every email you send should include an unsubscriobe link, this ensures only interested people stay on your list and you don’t become seen as a spammer.
5) Include a link back to your site on every email you send, not only will this help you get return visitors to your site and more sales but it will also help reduce the number of people who unsubscribe. People who have forgotten who you are will click through to your site to remind themselves before unsubscribing.
These 5 tips are just the start for building a profitable email list. Email marketing is an art, how regular you send emails, what subjects you use, the content and layout of your emails, etc all can effect just how profitable your list becomes.
If you spend the time researching, testing, and tweaking then your list can become a bigger earner than your site itself. A large list can create hundreds of sales with one email but it’s up to you to build the list properly and treat it right.

I have not used any free PHP scripts for capturing emails, however you could try http://www.hotscripts.com/ they usually have some good scripts whatever you are looking for

Sorry but I dont see the how to build a PROFITABLE email list in this article, I see how to start a list and get subscribers, where the how to make it profitable?

I Shane, the second part of the article was all about how you make a profitable email list.
Points 1 and 2 (offering something for free and correct positioning of the subscribe form) will get you more subscribers. Points 3 and 4 will allow you to build up trust with your subscribers and ensure you dont get seen as a spammer (which will keep your email deliverable to everyone). Trust is essential to making money from a list. Point 5 helps your list be profitable by making sure you get people to return to your site, meaning you dont just profit from upsells in the emails but also from your site.
All of these together help to make your email list profitable. Of course you will also need to send out the right kind of emails upselling to products to make any money but those 5 things in the article are key to profitability as much as the content of emails are.
Perhaps I will do another post soon about the actual formatting of the emails you send out.
